Elk Season

It's elk season! Fall hunting is finally here and elk season is a big part of that. To celebrate we thought it would be fun to give a little more information on this popular game. Take a look at the information below before you go out it pursuit of this large animal.

Did you know that as the seasons change, so do elk's diet and coloring? The diet makes sense, as this animal is a grazer, they eat what is seasonally available to them, but I find the coloring to be particularly interesting. Many hunters already know that the legs and the neck of the elf are often darker than the body.

Well known big game, adult elk can weigh in around 700 pounds, that will stock your deep freeze! The Antlers alone on these babies can weigh 40 pounds, that's awesome. While the size of these antlers is impressive, it's important to note, that only the males of the species have them, and they grow a new set every year!

If you're looking to bag an elk this season, head out west, where all of the top 10 states for elk are located. Your best bet will be Colorado, where the elk population is around 200,000.
